Renato Usatîi on whether he will run for president or not

Chairman of Our Party (Partidul Nostru), Renato Usatîi, argues that he will make a decision on his potential candidacy for the position of president of the Republic of Moldova in the next presidential elections depending on the population’s support. The politician says that closer to the presidential ballot he will study the polls and analyse if he has the necessary support to run for such a position. The statements were made on "Friday with Anatolie Golea" program, RTR Moldova TV station, IPN reports.

"If we see that Renato Usatîi's personal rating at national level makes up 25-30%, as it was in 2015-2016, reaching even 40%, then I will consider the possibility to run for president", stressed the politician.

Renato Usatîi says he will not seek retaliation for the fact that in 2015 the legislation was amended and thus he could not apply for the position of head of state. "If I am delegated by a quarter of the population, I will run for president," the PPPN chairman mentioned.

The politician says he did not run for mayor of Chisinau, as urged by his colleagues, because this would not have been fair to the residents of Balti, who supported him even in his absence from the country.  In addition, Renato Usatîi says that he had to obtain the mayoral seat of Balti in order to continue things started during the previous term.

Renato Usatîi won a clear victory in the elections for the position of Balti mayor. Almost 62% of citizens voted for the PPPN chairman. He was followed at a great distance by the PSRM candidate, who obtained only 16.21% of the vote.
