Renal dialysis services will be modernized within public-private partnership

The renal dialysis sections of the National Clinical Hospital and other medical institutions will be modernized and outfitted with modern equipment within a public-private partnership project. The decision to initiate the project was taken by the Government on July 10, IPN reports.

Minister of Health Andrei Usatii said the 78 dialysis machines from the seven specialized sections are old. The dialysis services are also limited from geographic viewpoint. The patients have to weekly cover large distances in order to receive the necessary treatment. “In Moldova, more than 400 persons with chronic renal insufficiency need dialysis treatment. By this public-private partnership project, we aim to increase capacities to over 1,300 patients,” said the minster.

The public partner will transmit the renal dialysis services to the private partner for a period of 12 years. This term can be later doubled. The private partner will be obliged to replace the medical devices used to provide services and to modernize the renal dialysis sections. The investments will be recouped from providing dialysis services within the mandatory health insurance system and from other possible sources.

The private partner can be a legal entity, a private individual or associations of legal entities and private individuals. The contest will be announced in three months. The new services will start to be provided in a year, after the necessary repair works are carried out.
