Removing consequences of last summer floods needs financing next year
The last summer floods in Moldova made damages of over 11 million lei in Vadul lui Voda town. 1.67 million are estimated to be the Chisinau Council’s losses, the other belonging to companies working in the beach area. The Chisinau authorities intend to allot money from the Reserve Fund for the next year to change the beach sand and to restore the dam broken by waters, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Vadul lui Voda mayor Iurie Onofriiciuc, the dam is meant to protect the road for about 500 villa owners, who work in Chisinau. “The dam ruined and that is why the territory penetrated by subway cables was flooded,” the mayor said on Wednesday, December 17, at a sitting of the Emergency Commission, saying that 380 thousand lei are needed to restore it.
A civil servant from Chisinau's Apa-Canal Administration (ACC) said that it is necessary to replace an electrical connection at the water cleaning station, in order to avoid such situations, when there was the danger to disrupt the supply of drinking water to Chisinau. “The cable would enable the water collecting station to work despite floods,” the ACC representative said.
The managers also talked about the fact that a part of the shore, where many trees were grounded, became 10-12 meters closer to the road. “If one or two floods of this kind occur, the water can come to close to the resort area,” deputy mayor Vlad Cotet said.
These problems incur risks for 2009 and are to be solved with the money of the reserve fund, said Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, who is also the chairman of the Emergency Commission.
The authorities plan to repair a part of the road of about 1 km. Dorin Chirtoaca says it's not a priority and the money for this purpose will be allocated from other sources.
