Removal of reequipped minibuses will affect public transport, says Chisinau Mayor

The Chisinau Municipal Council will meet this week to examine the problem of the removal of reequipped minibuses from public transport. It plans to request the Government to suspend the respective decision again. At a City Hall’s meeting on Monday, General Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his concern about the fact that by the end of the year the municipality will have only a half of the 2,200 minibuses left, and about the impact of this situation on the municipal transport. For his part, the head of the General Division for Transport Veaceslav Tarna stated that the municipality doesn’t need more than 1,100 de minibuses. According to him this amount is sufficient to provide optimal transport for passengers and there won’t be hours-long stands at the terminal points anymore. The mayor also requested the responsible persons to convince the drivers to stop only at the bus stops. The municipality agreed to give the drivers some tome to rearrange their stops. After that period, penalties will be applied. Stopping at bus stops will be compulsory only for the main streets. In case of the streets with limited access to public transport, the rule will not be applied.
