Relatives of man arrested in Transnistria seek help
The relatives of Vitalie Eryomenko, 43, who was arrested by the unconstitutional Transnistrian authorities for embezzlement in March 2011, ask the constitutional Moldovan authorities to become involved and to set the man free. In a news conference, the relatives said the man has been held in inhuman and degrading conditions for 693 days already, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The man’s father Tudor Eryomenko said that his son ran several companies in Slobozia town of the Transnistrian region. Vitalie Eryomenko was accused of appropriation of US$1.5 million by a local deputy who wanted to take his business. “This individual, who is a bandit to our mind, benefited from the property of Vitalie Eryomenko’s family,” said the man. He also said that his son was arrested in cooperation with the Moldovan police.
The family’s lawyer Alexandru Zubko, the jurist of Promo-LEX Association, said a division head of the Ministry of the Interior transmitted confidential information to the unconstitutional Transnistrian authorities. An application was filed against him at the Prosecutor Generals’ Office and the National Center for the Protection of Personal Data. The Prosecutor Generals’ Office refused to start a criminal case, arguing the Transnistrian institutions form part of a common system of Moldova. The Ministry of the Interior launched an internal inquiry and established that the given division head was innocent. Only the National Center for the Protection of Personal Data determined that the information was passed on illegally. “This information represents a danger to the family. Those from Tiraspol already know all the details,” said the lawyer, adding that the case of Eryomenko was sent to the ECHR and may be examined as a matter of urgency.
Vitalie Eryomenko’s son Vlad told the same new conference that when his father was arrested their house was confiscated. The family was driven away and they could take no staff with them. Now the family lives at Vitalie Eryomenko’s parents.
