Relationship with United States 'reached a very advanced level'
Moldova has always enjoyed the United States' support since it gained independence, and in the last three years the relationship between the two countries, including political dialogue, has reached a very advanced level, stated Moldova's Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca at a conference held to mark 20 years of Moldo-American ties, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The Moldovan nation is willing to grow, and the United States has offered a great deal of technical and material support for this. More important however is the political support and we need to further strengthen our relationship”, stated Iurie Leanca.
He added that Moldova needed to focus on commercial relations and attract American investors to our country. “I think that in the near future what we'll have won't be financial assistance but investment. Moldova has no excuse to delay reforms, not anymore. We have to work”, declared the official.
U.S. Ambassador William Moser recalled that 20 years ago when the United Stated recognized Moldova it wished our country to become a prosperous state. “Today, more than ever, we believe in this statement and we have a clear vision about the future of Moldovans”.
William Moser highlighted the importance of the cooperation between Moldova and the State of North Carolina, remarking how similar they were in size and interests of the people.
Elaine Marshall, Secretary of State of North Carolina, said that the cooperation was based on friendly relations and support. “We have supported a number of projects in education, healthcare and agriculture. We have experts who can provide knowledge and share their experience with the Moldovans. We want to support your country because governments come and go, but relations between people remain for a long time”.
Vasile Nedelciuc, the head of the Moldovan Foreign Policy Association, stated at the event that all the objectives planned by Moldova could be attained with the United States' support and that was why it was important to strengthen the relationship.
