The relationship between the International Monetary Fund and Moldova was good and thorough, and the priorities of the two parties coincided in most aspects. A statement in this sense was made by Deputy Director of IMF’s European Department Aasim Husain at his meeting with Vlad Plahotniuc, Senior Deputy Speaker of Moldovan Parliament and Senior Vice-president of the Democratic Party, in the United States of America, reports Info-Prim Neo, quoting a communique from the Party. The fiscal reform was the main topic in the discussion with the IMF representative. In this context, both parties confirmed their commitment to continue the cooperation between Moldova and the IMF, aiming at improving our country’s economic growth. Among the priorities that Vlad Plahotniuc listed during the meeting with the IMF are: the reform of the local public administration, incentives for private businesses, increasing fiscal discipline, regulating the private pensions system, and ensuring the independence of National Bank of Moldova. “As Parliament Senior Deputy Speaker, I permanently opted for the legislative’s involvement in the timely completion of all commitments towards the IMF. All of the legislative arrears have been voted in the Parliament before the end of this summer’s session. Our further attention will focus on managing state institutions, with the objective to fulfill our commitments in accordance to the agreement with the IMF”, stated Vlad Plahotniuc during the meeting in the US. In turn, the Deputy Director of IMF’s European Department has evaluated the relations between Moldova and the IMF as good and thorough. “We are glad that our priorities coincide with those of the IMF. The relation between the International Monetary Fund and Moldova was good and thorough. It is encouraging for us that you see an opportunity for implementing reforms in the two and a half years left before the next elections. I hope that there is political will in taking measures towards the improvement of the fiscal systems.” Additionally, Aasim Husain encouraged Moldova to ensure its economic growth and give incentives to the private business sector. Vlad Plahotniuc was joined by PDM MPs Igor Corman and Adrian Candu, at his meeting with the IMF representative. Additionally, Moldovan MPs discussed concrete measures to be taken for the support of the business sector, especially regarding small and medium enterprises from Moldova, with representatives of Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). This organization is famous for the support it offers to SMEs, with American participation, and in Moldova OPIC develops a partnership with the Moldovan Investment and Export Promotion Organization (MIEPO).
