The Reintegration Policies Bureau said there is exaggerated and unfounded restriction of movement in the Transnistrian region following the issuing of red alert for April 26 – May 10 for ensuring security in the region. Among the ordered measures are the strengthening of infrastructure of unauthorized checkpoints along the administrative line, through checks of each vehicle entering or leaving the region and the obligation for the persons going to the region to be registered with the Transnistrian bodies, the Bureau said in a press release that is quoted by IPN.
The institution said the restrictive measures were introduced four days after Tiraspol announced the simplification of the free movement mechanism for the period of the Easter holidays. This way, the regime of self-isolation was restored in the region, with the inhabitants from both sides of the Nistru being again limited in their rights and freedoms.
The Bureau reiterates the necessity of removing the obstacles to the free movement of people and units of transport, restoring and maintaining a free movement mechanism similar to that applied on the right bank, withdrawing the unauthorized checkpoints/barriers from the Security Zone, uninterruptedly continuing the fulfillment of the commitments undertaken earlier by Tiraspol in the negotiations and of respecting the rights and freedoms of the citizen, including to free movement all over the Republic of Moldova.
A number of explosions occurred at the head office of the so-called Security Ministry of the Transnistrian region in the evening of April 25. Two more blasts were reported in Mayak village of Grigoriopol district in the morning of April 26. The administration of the Transnistrian region issued a red alert for terrorism for a period of 15 days. Checkpoints will be set up at the entrance to the region. During the day, checks will be carried out selectively, while at night the measure will be applied to all those who will cross the demarcation line. According to the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselski, an investigation into ‘terrorist acts’ was ordered and those to blame will be penalized for terrorism, murder attempt and illegal possession of weapons. The May 9 celebrations will be held by avoiding rallies. The educational institutions will apply online learning until the end of the academic year.
