Reintegration of Transnistria implies acceptance of compromises, opinion

The reunification process requires a more active involvement of the Moldovan people and acknowledgement of the fact that the reintegration of the Transnistrian region implies the acceptance of compromises, executive director of the Foreign Policy Association Victor Chirila said in a meeting with students of a Moldovan university. The event was organized within the caravan “Europe for Everyone”, IPN reports.

Victor Chirila noted that these compromises refer to the payment of the region’s debts and the provision of social support to the Transnistrians from the state budget.

The meeting also involved the head of the Reintegration Office George Balan. He said that this unsettled conflict causes damage of hundreds of millions of dollars to the state budget every year. “Moldovan society should mobilize and realize the interdependence and connection between the accomplishments in the European integration process and the country’s reunification,” he stated.

The experts told the students about the advantages that the Transnistrian economic entities will enjoy when the Association Agreement with the EU is signed. They underlined that the people from the left bank of the Nistru River are misinformed and artificially isolated from the advantages that the EU brings to Moldova.

The caravan “Europe for Everyone” is a technical assistance project financed by the EU. The caravan will travel to a number of settlements. It set off in Cahul town on April 30 and will last by the end of June.
