Reintegration Ministry sees as groundless Transnistria breaking off contacts

The Reintegration Ministry considers as groundless the statements launched Tuesday by the Tiraspol authorities on suspending the direct contacts between Chisinau and Tiraspol. The Chisinau authorities reiterate their availability to continue, without any preliminary conditions, the direct talks with Tiraspol's representatives, including within the present format, and the work of the trust-building teams to work out and adopt a viable solution for the Transnistrian conflict, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Ministry's press unit. The position is said to be backed by the observers and mediators involved in the talks on settling the Transnistrian conflict. Representatives of the OSCE mission, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the EU and the USA met the Moldovan Reintegration Minister Vasilii Sova on August 13. The mediators expressed their availability to further contribute to the promotion of trust-building measures within the context of the efforts to fully and sustainably settle the Transnistrian problem within „5+2” format of talks, by observing Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity. At the consultations, they discussed matters related to the present stage and the prospects of settling the Transnistrian conflict. The Tiraspol authorities stated on August 12 they broke off any contacts with the Chisinau Government until it „has denounced Georgia's aggression in South Ossetia.” "Transnistria declares a moratorium on contacts with Moldova until the Moldovan side issues a decisive, unconditional denunciation of Georgia's aggression," the foreign ministry of the Tiraspol authorities said in a statement.
