Reintegration Bureau: State of Adrian Glijin and detention conditions are unclear

The Reintegration Policies Bureau said that despite the efforts made so far, personal contact with Adrian Glijin, who was arrested over a year ago by the Transnistrian authorities, could not be ensured. His state of health and detention conditions are unclear and the perspective of setting him free is not communicated. The young man’s rights and freedoms continue to be encroached upon and this generates serious concern, IPN reports.

Immediately after the case became known, both the Bureau and the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration made use of all the available instruments and notified the law enforcement agencies and the players involved in the “5+2” format, the OSCE Chairmanship and the international partners that manage the human rights component (OSCE, CoE, UN, relevant embassies), these being asked to make an active contribution and to provide assistance in obtaining the release of Adrian Glijin.

Multiple approaches were made through the communication channel of the chief negotiators of Chisinau and Tiraspol, including through Moldova’s delegation to Joint Control Commission, so as to determine the reasons for the abuses and unfounded detention. They also asked to ensure the mother’s and relatives’ access to the place of detention and to inform about the state of health and detention conditions.

According to the Reintegration Policies Bureau, the case of Adrian Glijin will remain in the focus despite the difficulties related to the inaccessibility of public factors and human rights defenders from the right bank of the Nistru to the Transnistrian region. The case will be added to the agenda of all the relevant dialogue formats until it is definitively solved.

Promo-LEX Association last week launched a campaign titled “Show him Alive” in support of Adrian Glijin. The campaign is an online effort to persuade the constitutional authorities, the Russian authorities and the players of the “5+2” format to immediately become involved to defend and set free a person kidnapped over a year ago, about whom nothing is known at present. Adrian Glijin’s mother called on the authorities to become involved and help set her son free.
