Rehabilitation of one of Chisinau’s largest pedestrian underpasses begins

Rehabilitation work has started on one of the largest pedestrian underpasses in Chisinau, located at the intersection of Ion Creangă Street and Ștefan cel Mare Boulevard, near the Pedagogical University.

Mayor Ion Ceban says that this underpass has never been rehabilitated before, and in recent years it has been not quite safe for the pedestrians using it. The subway was dirty, had no lights and with damaged stairs.

The total cost of the repair is about 4 million lei. Half of the amount is the contribution of the Chisinau City Hall, with the other half coming from Romanian city of Galati.

The rehabilitation is expected to last ten months, and because the pedestrian traffic is quite intense here, the repair will be carried out in stages and the underpass will not be closed completely.

The project includes reconstructing the stairs and installing ramps for people with special needs. The ceiling, the walls and commercial spaces will be rehabilitated, the lighting system will be modernized, and the drainage system will be cleaned. Also, video surveillance will be installed.
