Rehabilitated water pipes in Tohatin to be put into operation at end-June

The works to rehabilitate 1,400 meters of water pipes in Tohatin commune of Chisinau municipality are close to an end. In less than two weeks, the pipes will be tested hydraulically, washed and disinfected. Later, the consumers will be connected to the water pipeline, IPN reports.

The works started at the end of April and have been executed according to plan. These are performed by the Spanish company “OCIDE Construccion” and include the laying of ductile cast iron pipes with the diameter of 250 mm and polyethylene pipes with the diameter of 25 to 225 mm.

“Apa-Canal Chisinau” director general Valeriu Mesca on June 8 inspected the building site. “Most probably, at the start of July already the consumers will have water supply and sewerage services round-the-clock, and the pressure will be constant,” he stated.

The water pipeline in Tohatin dates from 1970 and no longer coped given the wear degree and the large number of connected consumers.

The works form part of the program to rehabilitate 190 km pf water pipes and 7 km of sewer pipes in Chisinau municipality, which is financed with funds from the EBRD, EIB and the investment grant provided though the Neighborhood Investment Facility of the EU.
