The Chisinau Municipal Council decided to adopt the Regulation on providing authorization to use local symbols, the official or historical name of Chisinau as commercial brands. This way, natural persons or legal entities that own or are willing to obtain the right to use local symbols are to address an application to the Chisinau City Hall. The application shall enclose papers regarding the brief design and description of the local symbol used in the trademark, the list of goods and services that need registration of the trademark containing the local symbol, and a quality certificate. Businessmen shall submit as well the copy of the certificates of the enterprise’s registration and of the fiscal code, a certificate testifying the lack of debts or confirming the debts to the state social insurances budget, information on the volume of production made and services provided the previous year and the plan for the current year, as well as the decision on publishing the application of registering the trademark submitted to AGEPI. The Regulation on providing the authorization to use local symbols, the official or historical name of Chisinau by businessmen was approved by CMC at the end of July. According to responsible of the Economics, Reforms and Patrimony Relations General Department, this regulation will prevent jeopardizing the municipality’s image. The authorization to use local symbols is provided for a 10-year term, with the right to prolongation. It can be canceled if the holder uses the symbols for other goods and services, jeopardizes Chisinau’s image, or the quality of the goods and services does not comply with the standards set when the authorization was provided. At present 29 businessmen use local symbols.
