Four televisions – N4, NIT, Moldova 1 and EuTV – massively covered the representatives of the government and of the the PCRM and the PPCD in news, find rapporteurs from the Electronic Press Association (APEL) in a last report on monitoring the main Chisinau televisions in the electoral race. The report deals with the period July 15-21, 2009. “At the same time, opposition representatives were treated on those televisions in a negative and disfavoring context,” is another conclusion the media observes made public in a news conference at Info-Prim Neo, on July 27. “Compared to the previous weeks, regress has been noticed especially on NIT and Moldova, regress that may reduce the political pluralism in newscasts,” said university professor Constantin Marin, an expert with the project. The monitors also notice a selective trend on behalf of N4, NIT, Moldova 1 in using multiple sources in conflict-related news. Thus, the reports covering the PCRM members, as a rule, lacked the opinions of the opposition representatives criticized by the PCRM, while the reports from the opposition's events did contain the opinions of the criticized representatives of the PCRM and of the government. In the programs of N4, NIT and EuTV, president Vladimir Voronin and his party enjoy positive coverage in general, in sheer disproportion to the other electoral participants, the observers find. N4 airs hidden electoral advertising, displaying a slogan of the PCRM on the table where newspapers for the Press Review lie. The project in which APEL monitors the main Chisinau televisions since January 1, 2009, is financed by the Delegation of the European Commission to Moldova and other international donors, and is part to the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections – Coalition 2009.
