Chisinau’s historical center will lose space in the Albisoara Street zone, but will be expanded in areas such as the Circus or Alexei Mateevici Street, said Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu as he announced that the Register of architectural monuments of local significance was finished, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Register selection was based on criteria like the building’s purpose and state, its importance as historical monument and cultural heritage. Edifices considered local architectural monuments can’t be demolished. The ones in a poor state of repair can be rebuilt. Any construction or reconstruction must follow the General Urban Planning of Chisinau City. Changes of architectural style will only be permitted inside the edifices. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca requested that the owners of such buildings be notified about the importance and status of their property, about the penalties for illegal demolitions. The Register of local architectural monuments will be presented to the Chisinau Municipal Council. Afterwards, the Government will update the Register of national monuments.
