Regaining of Romanian nationality is Bessarabians’ option for reunion, senator

Bessarabia’s union with Romania is an ongoing process, said Claudiu Târziu, the co-president of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians. The Romanian senator, who heads the Commission for Romanians from Everywhere of the Senate of Romania, noted that through the mechanism for regaining Romanian nationality, the Bessarabians opt for their personal reunion and the reunion of their descendants with Romania.

“The Republic of Moldova is the smallest external neighbor of the European Union out of a total of 22 neighbors and is simultaneously the state with the largest number of citizens of a state that is a European Union member as over 35% of the residents of the Republic of Moldova became again Romanian citizens. Together with those who started the procedures for regaining the nationality, the figure rises to over 50% of the population of the Republic of Moldova. These are young and active people. The Romanian nationality this way becomes the principal nationality, while that of the Republic of Moldova – the secondary one. These Romanians who think pragmatically and act responsibly towards them and their families show the correct path that should be followed by the Moldovan authorities,” Claudiu Târziu stated in a news conference at IPN.

He noted that the reunion with the motherland Romania is the only swift and viable way for the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the EU. “This depends on the political will of the Parliaments in Bucharest and Chisinau and on nothing more. No one can prevent two states from uniting if they decide to do so,” stated the senator. “The Bessarabians should not wait for the illusory European integration promised by the current government in Chisinau when a solution is within easy reach. There is no need to wait for years, to fulfill particular conditions. The Parliament in Chisinau can simply vote for the reunification and the process can start immediately.

AUR MP Boris Volosatyi, a member of the Commission for the Romanian Communities from Outside the Country’s Borders of the Chamber of Deputies, said the Republic of Moldova showed that it chose the road to the EU. “We warmly welcome the decision to apply to join the community of European states made by our country’s administration. But we are very skeptical about the possibility of things changing very quickly in times of war. The European officials also admit this. There is yet a much easier and natural path – through Romania. This is the shortest path as the Republic of Moldova has only one border eastwards. This is the border on the Prut, with the motherland Romania,” stated Boris Volosatyi.
