The reasons for the refusal to grant international protection to a foreigner and for the rejection of the application for asylum should be justified in accordance with the law. The persons who committed a serious offense, planned an act of terrorism or pose a threat to public order or security in the Republic of Moldova cannot benefit from protection in the Republic of Moldova, Vera Valuța, deputy head of the Legislation, Coordination and Data Management Unit of the Bureau for Migration and Asylum, who is responsible for communication, stated for IPN, quoting the law on asylum in the Republic of Moldova.
According to her, to apply for asylum the person needs to be on the state border of the Republic of Moldova or on the country’s territory. After the foreigner files an application for asylum, this is issued with a temporary identification paper confirming the status of asylum seeker. An applicant’s file is examined during up to six months. Until international protection is granted, the applicant stays in the Republic of Moldova. Meanwhile, the person can ask to be housed at the Accommodation Center of the Bureau for Migration and Asylum.
