Refined draft energy strategy to be presented in three months
The effort made by Moldova to integrate into the European energy market should not be interpreted as being to the detriment of the Eastern energy exporters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said Monday. According to him, the refined draft energy strategy will be submitted to the Government for approval in three months, by September. The strategy will have three main objectives, namely security of supply, ensuring of competitiveness and accessibility of energy, and combating of climate change, Info-Prim Neo reports.
”The current energy strategy until 2020 has too many priorities, but the available financial resources are insufficient. In the updated version, we will center only on several priorities and the measures will be planned based on the available funds. This will increase our credibility before the development partners and potential investors,” Valeriu Lazar said in a workshop held within a technical assistance project financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
The workshop focused on the possible scenarios for Moldova’s energy sector. Among the formulated recommendations were to integrate the electric power lines into the European energy system by 2018, to liberalize the energy market by 2015, as agreed with the Energy Community, to create efficient electricity and natural gas markets, to work out a mechanism for transparently setting prices, and to adopt energy efficiency policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
