Referendum is held concurrently with parliamentary elections in order to confuse voters, opinion

The consultative referendum on the number of MPs and the possibility of recalling MPs that will be held on February 24, 2019 simultaneously with the parliamentary elections was initiated on purpose so as to confuse the voters. The opinion was stated in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Socialist MP Vladimir Țurcan said the Constitutional Court noted the two electoral processes should not be combined. “The elections are the main matter and the people should thus pay attention only to the two ballots – party lists and the candidate in single-member constituency,” stated the MP.

As regards the independent candidates, Vladimir Țurcan said most of these will unofficially represent the power. “Judging by the aspirants who announced their intention to run independently, we can deduce that these will be like a “Trojan horse” and the voters should be watchful. Our position is clear: we do not have what to hide from the people. We are not ashamed to say that this is our candidate and this runs in elections on our ticket,” he noted.

Jurist Pavel Midrigan said it was a mistake to introduce the mixed electoral system. Such a reform shouldn’t have been done one year before the elections. He also considers there will be political parties behind the independents. “They are needed as a voting machine and they will be used for their authority as the authority in Moldova plays its role,” stated the jurist.
