Recompense should be paid for not using medical services, initiative

The Institute for European Politics and Reforms considers a system of recompenses for health should be created to stimulate the people to lead a healthy lifestyle. According to the Institute, 80% of the Moldovans who are medically insured have never used the medical services covered by the health policy during the past year, IPN reports.

Experts of the Institute propose several models of recompensing the most conscious medically insured persons such as the provision of a free health policy for a definite period of time, season tickets to gymnasiums and swimming polls and other measures to encourage the people to lead a healthy lifestyle.

The Institute considers the recompense for health is an investment in a healthy society and thus in a more favorable economy. Therefore, the public costs for medical surgery and treatment will be reduced, while the money paid into the mandatory health insurance funds can be used for prophylaxis activities and other measures aimed at preventing disease.
