Reckless smoking kills two
Two men died Thursday from carbon monoxide poisoning in two separate fires caused by reckless smoking.
Dorina Cruc, spokesperson for the Civil Protection Service, has told Info-Prim Neo both men were apparently inebriated when they fall asleep with their cigarettes lit.
The first case occurred in a summer kitchen in Balatina village, Glodeni district, where the 58-year-old owner died in smoldering bedding, with signs indicating that a burning cigarette was the most likely cause.
The second case occurred in a home in Parcova village, Edinet village, in similar circumstances and involved a 48-year-old man.
From the beginning of the year, there were recorded 1,592 fires across Moldova, which killed 108 persons. Reckless smoking accounted for nearly 300 fires.
