The Prosecutor General’s Office will ask the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the Ministry of Health to formulate proposals for amending the legislation concerning cases of mass food poisoning, IPN reports.
In a news conference, prosecutor of Chisinau’s Rascani district Igor Popa said the legislation does not contain clear provisions regarding the punishment to which a company is liable when a prescription to stop work, issued by the relevant bodies, is not obeyed. A swift intervention mechanism is necessary, to be applied when a company commits a violation.
According to Igor Popa, the August case of mass poisoning when a person died was possible owing to the deficiencies in the legislation. A part of the blame is borne by the institutions empowered to intervene as they did not cooperate.
Igor Popa said that when the prosecutor general makes the request to the two ministries, they will have to submit proposals concerning the mechanisms for intervention in similar cases in a month.
