Reaction of FinComBank to Romanies’ accusations: It is a banal case of debt nonpayment

“It is a banal case of nonpayment of a debt,” a representative of FinComBank said, referring to the accusations made by the National Roma Center, concerning the discrimination by the bank against clients on grounds of ethnicity, creating difficult conditions for a Roma businessman to repay a loan, IPN reports.

The bank’s specialist in debt repayment Andrei Cenusa told the reporters that this is a banal case and the litigation has lasted since 2009. According to him, the businessman from Glodeni, who made accusations against the bank, has a significant debt. He took out two loans – one of 100,000 lei and another one of 600,000 lei.

“It is a banal case. The individual company “Gheorghe Banda”, in the person of Gheorghe Banda, does not repay the debt to the bank. Thus, we had to go to court so as to get the money back,” stated Andrei Cenusa.

As to the businessman’s statements that he is ready to repay the loan if favorable conditions are created for him, the specialist said that Gheorghe Banda says one thing, but does another thing. “Since September 2009 until now, he has paid no leu,” said Andrei Cenusa. He denied the businessman’s assertion that the bank blocked his accounts.

In a news conference on October 29, the National Roma Center called on the authorities to become involved in solving this case that involves Gheorghe Banda. The businessman said the bank created difficult conditions for him to repay the loan as it aims to obtain the property he pledged with FinComBank.
