Chisinau municipality was among the worst hit by the heavy rain that came down Thursday morning. Dorina Cruc, spokesperson for the Emergencies Department, said many streets in the capital were flooded and traditionally the worst affected was the Train Station Alley, the city's lowest point, where rainwater levels climbed to that of car hoods, Info-Prim Neo reports. Rainwater also flooded multiple basements in various parts of the city, including the basement of the Opera House, where levels reached half a meter. Electric lines, including trolleybus wires, were also damaged. Vehicle traffic was slowed due to defective and obsolete drainage. A commission is now assessing damage.
