The heavy rain that fell in the afternoon of July 3 caused damage in seven districts and in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti. According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, local roads were damaged, trees were downed and roofs were destroyed. A number of cars remained blocked in the water, IPN reports.
The seven districts are Criuleni, Ungheni, Leova, Cantemir, Cimislia, Glodeni, and Straseni. In Leova, the roofs of some of the houses and of the district hospital were damaged. In Gotesti village of Cantemir district, the roof of kindergarten No. 1 was damaged, while in Glodeni town the roof of a grain storehouse was 30% destroyed.
More than ten trees were downed in Balti town. These fell down on streets, on a balcony, over two cars and a low pressure gas pipeline and also over trolleybus lines. In all these cases, the rescuers and firemen intervened to remove the trees and free the courtyards and roads.
Local roads were damaged in Stetcani and Miclesti villages of Criuleni district. The rescuers also towed away vehicles that got stuck in the water on a number of streets in Chisinau and Balti and pumped water out of yards, basements and orchards in Cimislia, Leova and Chisinau. The rain with hail destroyed 1.5 ha of vineyards in Leova town.
The local emergencies commissions are to gauge the damage. No casualties were reported.
