The employees of the Ocnița Railway Station presented a collective resignation, invoking the salary arrears, tvn.md said, quoted by IPN.
According to the workers, if they do not get their pays by February 3, they will have to find another job.
Meanwhile, officials of the state-owned enterprise "Moldova’s Railways" (CFM) said that the salary arrears during August-December 2024 reached 156,863,500 lei.
"The people have no salaries. They have nothing to live on. The salaries are half a year overdue. Now they are paid with a delay of two months. That is, the transport employees were paid on the 1st (two months ago), and those from the railways on the 19th (two months ago). We already have the right to submit an application, according to Article 78, to stop work until the salary is fully paid,” CFM employees Dmitrii Fisiuc told tvn.md.
Employees complain that they can no longer support their families. "To send the children to school in the morning, you have to give them something in their backpack. The people prepare for work in the morning. What to put in the bag? We are not taken seriously. As if we were third-class citizens. But excuse us, slavery ended long ago," said Ludmila Garabagiu, CFM employee.
Meanwhile, “Moldova’s Railways” assures that paying the outstanding salaries to the almost 5,000 employees is a priority. A press release shows that CFM is in the process of reorganization and continues to look for solutions to remedy the economic and financial situation of the enterprise.
Secretary of state for transport of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development Mircea Păscăluță said that they already designed a concrete plan, based on two essential directions, to transform CFM into a modern and sustainable company.
"The CFM recovery plan takes into account the mechanism for allocating subsidies for the maintenance of railway infrastructure and passenger transport services, which will be applied in accordance with good European practices. We will turn CFM into a reliable partner for passengers and the economy," said the official.
The Trade Union Federation of Railway Workers of the Republic of Moldova this week announced that it will organize demonstrations and protests in front of the Parliament Building, the Government Building, the President’s Office and also in the eight railway hubs in the country to demand an immediate solution to the problem of salary arrears.
