The procedures for ensuring rail freight transportation via Ukraine towards Moldova and Ukraine and via Moldova towards Ukraine and Romania will be simplified. The Government approved the initiation of negotiations on draft Protocol No. 2 to amend the Agreement on Rail Transport with the Government of Ukraine, IPN reports.
The draft protocol eliminates the dual control operations and also the triple control by the customs and border management authorities in some of the areas. This way, customs and border control in the case of freight trains crossing Moldova and Ukraine will be facilitated.
Also, the amendment enables to modify the logistics chains by redirecting freight transport from the road segment to the rail one. This way, traffic on international roads will be eased and the volumes of freight in transit through Moldova will be increased.
