Moldova’s best tennis player Radu Albot on September 29 won the tournament in Fergana, Uzbekistan, which forms part of the series ATP Challenger. He beat Serbia’s Ilia Bozoljac 7-6, 6-7, 6-1, IPN reports.
For this success, Albot received a check of US$7,200 and 80 points in the ATP rankings. He thus climbed to the 179t, spot in the rankings, which is his best position in his career.
The final victory was won against Bozoljac of Serbia, who is a mate of world leader Novak Djokovic in the team as part of which he will play the Davis Cup final this year.
In the semifinal, Albot beat Jaziri of Tunis 6-1, 6-2. In another ATP Challenger this year, also in Uzbekistan, the 23-year-old tennis player lost the decisive match in Karshi against Russia’s Teymuraz Gabashvili.
In his career, Radu Albot has won 12 tournaments of the Futures series in Turkey, Italy, and Romania. Recently, he won two victories for Moldova’s national team in the Davis Cup duel with Portugal’s squad.
