Radu Albot scores victory at Australian Open

Radu Albot made a good start at the Australian Open. The Moldovan tennis player has qualified for the second round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. Albot beat Czech player Jan Mertl, who takes the 225th position in the world rankings, by 6-3, 7-6, after a game that lasted for one hour and a half, IPN reports.

In the second qualifying round, Albot meets Irish player James McGee, who ranks 199th in the world. The Moldovan tennis player, who is the 120th in the ATP rankings, must yet pass through two more qualifying rounds to reach the final of the competition.

In 2012, 2013 and 2015, Radu Albot stopped in the second qualifying round of the Australian Open. In the Grand Slam tournaments, he competed only in the final of the US Open, in singles.
