Radu Albot continues to win new victories this spring. The best Moldovan tennis player scored a victory in the first round played in a new Challenger competition in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, IPN reports

Albot beat Spain’s Javier Marti 7-6, 6-2. In the next round, he will meet Federico Gil of Portugal, who defeated Russian player Alexandr Lobkov. Albot and Gil will be opponents also in the Davis Cup. In autumn, Moldova and Portugal will fight for promotion to the first group.

In the doubles, Albot and Australia’s Jordan Kerr won against Russians Alexander Lobkov and Denis Matsukevich 6-2, 6-1.

Last week, Radu Albot went through to the final of the Challenger tournament held in Karshi, Uzbekistan. This performance pushed him to the 206th position in the ATP world rankings. The results achieved by Albot increase his chances of competing in other major tennis tournaments.
