Competing for the first time in the Olympic Games, Radu Albot has dramatically qualified for the second round of the Olympic tennis tournament in Rio. The 26-year-old athlete beat Russia’s Teymuraz Gabashvili 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, IPN reports.
After winning the first set, Gabashvili was leading in the second set by 3-1, but Albot had the power to recover and ultimately won. In the second round, Radu Albot meets the US Open 2014 champion Marin Cilic of Croatia, who takes the 14th position in the ATP rankings. The match will take place in the evening of August 8.
The two Moldovan swimmers who competed on August 7 didn’t manage to qualify for the semifinals. Alexei Sancov ranked 34th in 200 m freestyler with the result of 1:48.85, which is a very good one for a 16-year-old athlete. Tatiana Chisca finished 35th in 100 m breaststroke with the modest result of 1:11.37, even if she was a leader after swimming 50 meters.
