The best Moldovan tennis player Radu Albot on October 10 failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the ATP Tournament of the Challenger series held in Tashkent that has a prize fund of US$125,000, IPN reports.
The Moldovan athlete was beaten by Russia’s Teimuraz Gabashvili, who is the 118th in the ATP rankings, by 3-6, 5-7. Albot led by 4-2 in the second set, but didn’t manage to hold the lead. He earlier lost to Gabashvili in the final in Karshi, also in Uzbekistan.
Albot will play the next tournament in Moscow. The 23-year-old athlete will take part in the Kremlin Open qualifying rounds. If he qualifies for the final, he will be the first Moldovan in history who will play in an ATP 250 competition.
Radu Albot ranks 174th in the world, which is the best place ever taken by a Moldovan tennis player in the ATP rankings.
