Radioactive source on Chisinau street Sf. Andrei liquidated

The radioactive sources detected on Sfantul Andrei St in Chisinau was liquidates and poses now no threats, deputy head of the Emergencies Division of Chisinau municipality Liviu Merzancu said in the September 28 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, quoted by IPN.

During investigations, it was established that the concentration of radioactive substances in the ground near a building exceeded the admissible norm several hundred times. Specialists extracted two cubic meters of contaminated soil there.

The representative of the Chisinau Public Health Center said there is yet no preliminary conclusion over this case, as regards the danger posed to the people’s health, but the investigations go on. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu requested the Division to carry out inspections through the capital so as to make sure there are no other such areas that pose threats. 

At the beginning of last week, rescuers performed works to decontaminate a portion of soil contaminated with a radioactive substance on Sfantul Andrei St in Rascani district of Chisinau.
