Radio Sport may remain without license for three frequencies
Radio Sport risks remaining without license for three frequencies on which it did not broadcast for about a year and a half. The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) decided to initially warn the radio station, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to rapporteur Victor Pulbere, the head of the Examination and Licensing Division, Radio Sport holds four frequencies – in Chisinau, Anenii Noi, Varnita, and Sarata Galbena, but broadcasts only in Chisinau. The other three frequencies have not been used since May 2010.
The representative of Radio Sport said the station intends to start broadcasting simultaneously on the three frequencies, but encounters technical problems in Varnita.
The BCC members voted unanimously in favor of issuing a public warning. Council member Corneliu Mihalache suggested that the issue should be discussed in every meeting as it is a stupidity not to use the frequencies that are state patrimony.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, BCC chairman Marian Pocaznoi said the holders of frequencies do not broadcast as they may be looking for buyers because the frequencies are distributed by contest and it is very hard to obtain licenses for them.
Under the Broadcasting Code, the withdrawal of license is the last penalty imposed by the Broadcasting Coordination Council after issuing warnings and putting fines.
