A new radio station intended mainly for Romanian speakers is to start work soon. Radio One will broadcast on the frequencies ceded by National FM in Hancesti, Balti, Causeni and Vadul lui Voda, Discovery FM in Chisinau and Radio Plai in Carpineni, Hancesti, IPN reports.

In the December 30 meeting of the Broadcasting Coordination Council, Calin Rosca, programs director at Radio One, said the station focuses mainly on Romanian speakers who love European and Romanian music. Radio One will also broadcast music in Russian, but not much, and the evening program will be bilingual because it was determined that there are many Russian speakers who listen to the radio. No retransmission contract has been yet signed with a foreign radio station, but they intend to. Over 27% of the programs are news programs and talk shows, while the news items will be produced by the editors of the station.

Council member Olga Gututui refused to vote for the concession of the frequencies, arguing these should be put up for contest so that the best bids are chosen.

Member Mariana Onceanu-Hadarca also voted against, expressing her regret that “Info Mingir”, which founded National FM, will no longer work, while Radio One offers nothing special.

The other Council members voted in favor of the concession of the frequencies.
