Radio and TV stations penalized by broadcasting regulator

The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) approved by the general concepts of program services of 32 radio stations and 36 TV channels that are within Moldova’s jurisdiction in the context of the changes to the Broadcasting Code that took effect on February 12.

In the same meeting, the Council imposed fines of 5,000 lei on two radio stations and nine TV channels that by February 9 didn’t present the concepts that were to be approved by the BCC, IPN reports.

Among the penalized broadcasters are TV – Gagauzia, Moldova 2, RTR Moldova and Ren Moldova. Seven service providers were fined 5,000 lei.

A number of 20 radio stations and 15 TV channels will additionally present the general concepts of program services by February 15, 2018.

Under the amendments made to the Broadcasting Code, the broadcasters and distributors of services that are within the jurisdiction of the Republic of Moldova are obliged to ensure the protection of consumers of information from possible misinformation attempts or manipulating attempts from abroad by not broadcasting news, feature, military and political radio and television programs that are not produced in the EU member states, the U.S., Canada and in the states that ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television.
