Radio and TV channels to broadcast more national content from October 1

The broadcasters as of October 1 will be obliged to provide national content during at least eight hours a day, except for the period between 6am and 12am. At least six of the eight hours of national content will have to be broadcast during prime time and at least four hours should be in the official language, IPN reports.

The broadcasters that retransmit the program services of foreign radio and TV channels and will not have eight hours of national content will be unable to air advertisements.

The Broadcasting Coordination Council will supervise the way in which the national broadcasters comply with the legislation and will impose penalties for violations, ranging from public warning to the suspension of the broadcast license or retransmission authorization.
