Radars in Chisinau functional again

After about two months of testing, the 43 radars of the video cameras surveying traffic in Chisinau started  again to work. Contacted by IPN, head of the Traffic Monitoring and Control Center Dan Chirita said the radars were subject to the annual metrological examination and were reinstalled last Friday and tested during the weekend. Starting with August 10, the speeding drivers are fined.

The Center’s head noted that during the trial period, the video cameras continued to fix the violations committed by drivers such as non-observance of markings and passing at the red color of stoplights, but could not measure the speed. That’s why trap cars equipped with radars measured the vehicles’ speed on particular road portions, especially in areas with increased risk of accidents. These trap cars will continue to work where video surveillance is not possible.

Traffic surveillance cameras were set up in the municipality of Chisinau and in six districts. On December 18, 2014, the Centru court accepted the complained of the Association “Jurists for Human Rights” against the Ministry of the Interior, which said that the surveillance cameras violate the right to a private life. In April, the decision of the first court was quashed.
