Quota of national songs on radio and TV unchanged
The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) did not accept the Professional Singers Union’s request to increase the quota of national songs in radio programs to 50% and in TV programs to 40%.
“The BCC examined the request of the Professional Singers Union as well as a counter-request of radio directors to remove the existent quotas of 20% and 30%”, which was made one day before the Council’s meeting,” the Union’s head Iurie Badicu told Info-Prim Neo. After examining the two requests, the Council decided to maintain the existent quotas and obliged the broadcasters to observe them.
According o Iurie Badicu, the quota of national songs on some of the radio stations is 7-8% of the musical broadcasts, but it should be at least 30%. A database of national songs is to be created during two months to show that there are enough songs to fulfill the required quotas.
The Professional Singers Union brings together over 100 national singers who consider singing as their main profession.
