The parliamentary sitting scheduled by the PCRM for September 4 did not take place as the quorum was not present. Only the 48 Communist MPs attended. The oldest MP Ivan Calin announced a break until September 8, when the Constitutional Court is to pass its judgment on the contestation filed by the PCRM, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Communists Party challenged the legality of the Parliament’s meeting of August 28, which was continued by the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) in the absence of the PCRM, and the election of the PL leader Mihai Ghimpu as Speaker. Before coming to the sitting today, the Communist MPs had a closed-door party meeting. “We considered the possible candidates for different posts in state institutions,” the MP of the PCRM Mark Tkachuk said after the meeting. “We anticipated that the four parties (the PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN) would not come to today’s sitting,”said the Communist MP Grigore Petrenco. “It is their problem,” Mark Tkachuk added. Maria Postoico announced that the PCRM constituted its parliamentary group and that she will head it. MP Vladimir Turcan said that the PCRM will comply with the Constitutional Court’s decision. “We consider that our position is right. We do not want to forecast whether it will be in our favor or not,” he said. The AIE, which holds 53 of the 101 seats of MP, set the next sitting of the Parliament for September 10. Asked if the PCRM will attend that sitting, Turcan said that the September 10 meeting was not announced officially. “It’s just talk. We have not seen an official decision. On the other hand, I hope that the four parties acted according to the law at least this time, that is they will wait for the decision of the Constitutional Court first,” Turcan said, adding that it is not excluded that the next sitting of the Parliament that the PCRM will attend will take place on September 10. The AEI considers that the August 28 sitting and the decisions taken then are legal.
