The water supplied by SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) is continuously monitored, throughout the treatment and delivery process. Answering consumers’ questions about the quality of water and the relevant responsibilities of the operator and end-users, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Ion Cascaval said that a number of factors can affect the quality parameters of drinking water such as the wear degree of internal and external water pipes and unauthorized interventions. These interventions lead to the pollution of water, changing the circuit of water in networks and destroying the water regulation and metering equipment, IPN reports.
According to the specialist, in case of interventions in the water supply system, micro-particles of limestone and iron can detach themselves from the pipes and change the color of water. The wear degree of the water pipes of large diameter, of 1 000 - 1 400 mm, and of some of the pipes that were designed to supply drinking water to industrial companies and to a much larger number of consumers also influences negatively the quality of water. As the water in these networks is being polluted, the operator has to do a large volume of unplanned works, including to remove the pollution sources, to wash and disinfect the pipes and to reconnect the disconnected networks.
If they see that the color of water has changed, the consumers should go to the housing sector manager responsible for the given apartment building and inquire if works on the internal networks were done there. If such works weren’t done and the reasons for such a situation are not clear, the consumers can contact the Central Dispatcher’s Service of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” on 022-25-66-66 or 022-85-77-77 for representatives of ACC to examine the situation so that the networks are washed and disinfected and water samples are taken for lab tests.
Though the water of modified color does not pose a threat to health, this water should not be consumed or should be boiled if there is a smell of chlorine.
Water samples are taken by representatives of the lab of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” when planned or unplanned works are executed on drinking water pipes and when consumers file complaints.
