The drinking water source in Tantareni village of Anenii Noi district and the water in the well located near the landfill that is used in agriculture are not affected by the municipal waste dump. This is one of the findings of a geological and hydrological study carried out by the consultancy firm Fichtner.
The Chisinau City Hall said the taken samples of intact and non-monolithic rock were examined in a specialized geotechnical lab. The study shows the main substances whose concentrations in the wells in Tantareni exceed the standards are SO4 and NO3. The source of these substances is neither the waste dump, not the Byk River where the concentration of these substances is lower. Such a contamination is most often caused by agricultural activity. The excess of mineral fertilizers and animal breeding are the most spread sources.
As regards the geological aspect, the geological structure under the landfill is stable and leaching at the bottom wasn’t noticed. The dam needs to be strengthened by geological sands as it is not stable enough for earthquakes measuring 7 degrees on the Richter scale, which is required in the region.
Contacted by IPN, director of the municipal cleanup company “Autosalubritate” Tudor Maniv said they are yet examining particular features related to the waste dump and the final results will be presented by this yearend. Representatives of the municipality will have meetings with representatives of the local authorities and locals to discuss the resumption of waste transportation.
