PVE urges Government to take measures against illegal military drills in Transnistria

The Ecologist Green Party (PVE) of Moldova expresses its concerns and condemns the increase in frequency of military drills, including water crossing maneuvers, by “Russian occupation troops” on the territory of Transnistria. In a statement, quoted by IPN, the party asks the Government to “adopt a firm position against the defiant acts of Russia and the unconstitutional secessionist authorities of Transnistria.”

“This distressing behavior violates the mechanism set in place to ensure stability within the Security Zone, and could lead to new tensions in the region. Prohibiting the monitoring of military activity by observers from the Unified Control Committee and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), according to acting legislation, is an evident testimony to the intentions of Russia and the secessionist forces to raise tensions in the Security Zone. These activities also create premises for insecurity around the Colbasna ammo warehouse, which can easily explode and contaminate the water and soil, thus affecting surrounding areas,” says the PVE statement.

The Greens claim to be avid supporters of peace and non-violence, both in nature and among people. Having analyzed and processed the volatile situation that has surfaced in result of the unauthorized military drills in the Transnistrian region of Moldova, the Ecologist Green Party asks the Government of Moldova to take a firm stand against the defiant acts of Russia and the unconstitutional secessionist authorities of Transnistria.

Furthermore, the party asks the Russian Federal Government to abide by the provisions of international treaties and conventions on withdrawing its troops from Moldova’s territory, to take immediate measures towards the evacuation of ammo from the Colbasna military warehouse, and to allow monitoring by local and international observers (OSCE, EU).

PVE has repeated the appeal of the European Green Party, formulated in the Resolution on “Military Warehouses in Europe and Moldova”, which was adopted during the Party Council of May 20-22, 2016. Furthermore, the Greens ask OSCE and other international organizations to request Russia’s immediate withdrawal of occupation troops and ammo from Moldova, and to cease support of the illegal and secessionist regime in Tiraspol.
