The Purcari Winery has been awarded this year's Grand Prix of the Wine Sector, which will be handed to it at a ceremony during National Wine Day festivities, Info-Prim Neo reports. As the Government's decision reads, the prize is offered for its superior wines Negru and Roşu de Purcari, Rara Neagră, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon and Saperavi, as well as for other wines acclaimed both in Moldova and abroad. An essential condition for winning the prize was the participants' efforts to promote Moldovan wines and Moldova's reputation as a wine-producing country, which Purcari constantly does, the Government said. The Purcari Winery was founded in 1827. It produces wines according to a classic technology, using oak barrels for maturation. Its vineyards are situated on 250 hectares and include such varieties as Cabernet Sauvignon, Rara Neagra, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Saperavi and others, which are used both in varietal wines and in well-known blends. Primarily aiming at superior quality, Purcari's production is less than 500,000 bottles of exclusive wine per year.
