Pupils in nine districts will learn about renewable energy and energy efficiency

In the school year 2012-2013, over 2000 pupils in the 7th-8th grades in 9 districts of the country will learn about renewable energy and energy efficiency. The educational initiative will be implemented in communities that connect their public institutions to biomass-based heating systems with the help of the Energy and Biomass Project, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release from the United National Development Program (UNDP), pupils will be trained for a year through various educational activities dedicated to renewable energy and energy efficiency. They will learn from the “Renewable energy sources” textbook, developed and published by the Energy and Biomass in Moldova Project and the teachers will a have reference book for this course. Until 2014, the educational initiative to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency will extend to all of Moldova’s districts, in over 130 communities. The specialist in trainings and capacity development within the Energy and Biomass Project Victoria Ignat said that the educational initiative would contribute to educating a responsible generation and perhaps potential specialists in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The initiative was first launched last year. In the academic year 2011-2012, it involved 38 schools in the villages that connected their public institutions to biomass heating systems, with the support of the Energy and Biomass in Moldova Project.
