The Transnistrian executive proposed making the punishments for violations that refer to foreign exchange transactions more severe. The executive body considers punishment should be imposed if the value of the illegal transaction exceeds 5,000 minimal salaries, as opposed to 30,000 at present.
According to NewsPMR, to which IPN makes reference, the repeated violation of the regulations concerning currency operations in the course of one year will also be penalized.
Examining the initiative, the Transnistrian deputies expressed their concern about the fact that the harsher punishments will affect the people who need to purchase Russian rubles, lei and dollars for own needs. The population, without being to blame, became hostage to the currency crisis in the region.
The Transnistrian deputies consider that the state should adopt a complex approach to the fight against the violations committed on the currency market, which would refer more to the economic aspect, not the legal one.
The expert commission of the legislative body of Transnistria rejected the initiative.
