Punishment for income tax evasion will be stricter
The private individuals who will not present income statements will be held accountable, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting amendments to the Penal Code introduced by the Government.
The punishment for not presenting tax returns or presenting false statements, hiding incomes of more than 2,500 conventional units (a c.u. is equal to 20 lei), will be a fine of 1,000 to 2,000 conventional units, 180 to 240 hours of community services or imprisonment of up to two years.
The non-payment of income taxes in extremely large amounts will be punished with a fine of 2,000 to 3,000 conventional units or up to five years in jail.
According to Viorel Chetraru, the head of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, the amendments are designed to prevent and combat tax evasion and to increase the revenues collected into the national public budget.
