PUN seeks resignation of Premier Chicu

The National Unity Party (PUN) demands that Ion Chicu should immediately resign as Prime Minister and notes that any political and public support for the current Government will represent an act of hostility and lack of respect for Romania. The demand was incorporated in a Statement issued by the party, IPN reports.

“The National Unity Party took note of the cynical, insulting and absolutely irresponsible statement of Prime Minister Ion Chicu referring to Romania. We ascertain with regret that by this statement, Premier Chicu joined a continuity line of different Moldovan officials who, in different periods of time, made a cause for governance out of the Romania-phobia. The unfounded and disrespectful accusations against the Romanian state, with a profound anti-Romanian, neo-Soviet connotation, reveal the essence of the Socialist government that serves not the interests of the Republic of Moldova, but a master that represents them – the Russian Federation,” reads the Statement.

According to the PUN, “Premier Chicu’s statement is even more regrettable as it comes in a very difficult moment for the Republic of Moldova, which is devastated by the pandemic, when the Romanian state, which is also seriously affected, instructed to unconditionally help the Moldovan citizens by deploying a mission of 42 doctors to the Republic of Moldova; by providing medical and humanitarian aid to the value of €3.5 million; by the humanitarian mission of the Romanian army and many other support and solidarity moves.

“Given such a reality, which clearly shows that without the support of Romania and the European Union the Republic of Moldova will suffer a medical, economic and social collapse, we consider the further management by Ion Chicu of the Government is unacceptable. The National Unity Party demands that he should immediately leave the post of Prime Minister. We consider any political and public support for the current Government will represent an act of hostility and lack of respect for Romania,” reads the Statement.

Prime Minister Ion Chicu non-diplomatically rejected the criticism leveled by the president of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee Siegfried Mureșan, concerning the way in which his Government managed the COVID-19 crisis after doing also no reforms.
