PUN candidate: Ex-administration should assume responsibility for low voter turnout

The candidate for mayor of Chisinau of the National Unity Party (PUN) Constantin Codreanu expressed his disappointment with the low numer of voters who cast their ballots. “I want those who managed the municipality of Chisinau during the past ten years to assume responsibility for the low voter turnout,” the candidate stated in a press briefing after the polling places were closed, IPN reports.

Constantin Codreanu noted that besides the way in which the ex-administration of the municipality interacted with the people, the voters were also dissatisfied with the dirty election campaign.

“Our motivation in this campaign was to offer the citizens an alternative to the corrupt and dishonest politicians. We hope they found an alterative in us, in people who haven’t become involved in politics so far. We invite them to be near us in the parliamentary elections and in a year to repeat this electoral exercise,” stated Constantin Codreanu.

The PUN candidate said he considers himself a winner as he had the possibility discussing with the people and of showing that resposible politics full of respect for the citizens in Chisinau is possible.

With about 50% of the votes counted by 10.20pm, the Party of Socialists’ candidate Ion Ceban polled 41% of the vote, the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase – 31%, while independent canididate Silvia Radu – 17%.
